Caryn has always loved helping people, so she decided to make it part of her career. Her multiple roles and titles as an esthetician, entrepreneur, reiki healer, clinical hypnotherapist, and NLP practitioner might seem daunting, but with her passion, she makes them all work for her and her purpose.

Q: Tell us about your current work roles.

I wear so many hats! I am an esthetician by trade, I have been for thirteen years. I own my skincare business and run multiple spa suites for other beauty professionals to rent and run their businesses out of. I also co-own a CBD massage company. We also rent spaces out here for other professionals. Lastly, I am a reiki healer, clinical hypnotherapist, and NLP practitioner.

Q: what led you your careers?

I kind of fell into esthetics. I was a dancer and I got hurt very rapidly. I always loved skincare so I checked out a program and the rest is history, as they say! Once I opened my own business, there was no going back. I loved it! So I then felt I really needed to open the CBD spa, we opened right before the big boom happened. It was perfect timing. Now with my most recent addition, I have always loved helping people. It has just come naturally, so I decided to make it part of my career. I love reiki healing and hypnosis as well. These modalities all help a woman feel at their best.

Q: Did you have any life-changing experiences that led you to what you’re doing today?

I can't pinpoint one, but honestly, I grew up with just enough. So being stable and having what I needed has always been important to me as I build a new foundation for my "adult" self!

Q: How did your family and upbringing influence your career choices

My mom has always been so incredibly supportive of me. No matter what it was, she always said I could do it. So I would say she made a huge impact on my success. As far as the job choices, that was all me. My dad was not thrilled when I told him I dropped out of college and was going to school to be an esthetician. He actually said it was the dumbest thing I could have ever done. He has since realized that was wrong, haha. He is now fully supportive and proud of me, just like my mom is. Ah, parents "just don't understand!"

Q: What are you most proud of accomplishing?

I am most proud of taking the initial leap to go out on my own and now almost nine years later having a full clientele.

Q: What would you say motivates you the most to do what you do?

Freedom. I love being able to make my own schedule and take time off when I want to.

On Balancing Multiple Passions

Q: How do you balance being in different fields simultaneously?

Luckily, I feel like my fields kind of cross over, so that does help. I have been running my business and participating in it for almost nine years, so it's like clockwork. I use a lot of systems to keep things flowing. I hire out what I can't do on my own.

Q: What has been the greatest challenge for you when it comes to balancing multiple careers?

That would be when I opened my second spa. That was wild. I was running one business and taking clients, all while building and running the new place. Hiring employees and handling, those were difficult.

Q: What advice do you have for others who want to build a life around their multiple passions?

Make sure you don't allow the businesses to take over your life. Make time for your family and yourself. You will burn out so fast if you don't. Self-care should be a priority. You will be no good if you are not taking care of yourself. Everything else will fall apart if you are not a priority. Put systems in place to make your many jobs easier, and don't be afraid to hire out and ask for help if you need it.
